i have a bitchin cold.

my body aches, my brains hurt, and my throat sucks. also, i can't hear out of my left ear.

the amount i feel crappy now is directly proportional to the amount of fun i had this weekend. so without too much talking i'll post some outfit photos and just shut up, because i can't think well enough to say anything else.

gay bar dancing attire. black circle skirt, v-neck lacy tank, vintage plaid cinch belt, red crinoline and fun leopard print wedges.

i sorta suck at getting actual outfit pics. i bought this dress on ebay... definitely vintage late 50s, a white eyelet wiggle dress. it's really cute, and it needed a bit of help. the zipper was broken in a weird way (like the fabric actually started to disintegrate and shred!) and it needed some seams fixed... the lining on this dress is some sort of fake satin and it's pretty crappy and falls apart easily. it didn't have serging (obviously) or pinking or anything... BUT i spent a few hours last weekend basting, zig zag stitching (stitch width of 1) and hand sewing and fixed it right up! looks perfect now :)
it came with the original belt but it's faux leather and is starting to crumble, so i wore it with a simple black cinch belt, back seam nude fishnets, and some ridiculously high heels.

ok... that's probably enough for now. maybe i'll post something more substantial later this week.

outfit post.

oh helllllo. i thought i'd make a quick outfit post. i got to school early with all my homework done (a novel concept!) so i thought i'd show you what i'm wearing.

a while back Solanah posted something about hating it when people go to the grocery store in sweatpants. unfortunately, lots of people took offense to this and attacked her for it. i think it was a GREAT post because it's something that is one of my biggest pet peeves. i'm a graduate student, but i've noticed the large number of undergrads (though i'm sure other grad students do it too) who show up to school in their pjs. i think that this is absolutely ridiculous! even when i was a lazy undergrad, i NEVER didn't go to school with at least jeans on (even in my 2002-2003 super punk rock phase that was left over from high school). back then i kind of just wanted to be "one of the guys"... my uniform was usually a pair of dark denim jeans, chucks, and a band tshirt i cut up in some way. i had short black hair that was spikey in the back. i always had on black eyeliner and usually a bare lip.

me, my freshman year of college.

as i've gotten older, i have gotten far more girly. i always shopped at goodwill and salvation army as a teen, but as i've gotten older i've come to appreciate vintage clothing even more. i started getting really into rockabilly when i was about 20.

me at 20.

now, i buy mostly vintage clothing. today's outfit is a vintage swirl dress that i got on ebay (for a ridiculously low price), nude backseam tights, a crinoline, cute vintage inspired shoes, and victory rolls. though i am at school right now, i am going out to dinner with a friend after. not that my outfit would probably differ much even if i wasn't going out to dinner.

also, i can NOT recommend enough the new MAC wonder woman lipstick in russian red

it is a beautiful shade of a true red, and is perfect for summer!

vegan casserole

i was inspired by this recipe from fatfreevegan.com... i heavily heavily altered the recipe, however... so i think i can safely call it my own.

i didn't have a lot of the ingredients when i went to make this, so i substituted so much that it barely resembles the orignal. but i think my substitution is probably even MORE delicious than the original ;)

broccoli, carrot and potato curry casserole

1 pound small red potatoes, chopped into 1/2 inch pieces
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1/2 cup carrots, chopped into 1/2 inch pieces
1 large head of broccoli
1 pound silken tofu
1/4 cup vegetable broth
3 cloves garlic
4 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tsp tahini (or peanut butter)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp basil
salt and pepper to taste (about 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper)
2 tbsp bread crumbs (optional)
small handful of daiya cheeze (optional)

preheat oven to 400f. chop potatoes and carrots into 1/2 inch pieces. cover a baking sheet with parchment (or a silicone mat) and bake potatoes until they are fork-tender (about 15 mins). while the potatoes are cooking, boil a pot of water. chop the broccoli up into small florets. add 1 tbsp of salt to the boiling water and the broccoli, bring back to a boil. prepare a cold bath in a large bowl of ice water. cook for less than 5 minutes until just tender. immediately throw broccoli into the cold bath to shock them.

add the rest of the ingredients into the blender and blend. drain and towel dry broccoli. put broccoli and potatoes/carrots into a 2 qt casserole dish. pour tofu mixture over the top. sprinkle top with bread crumbs, daiya, and a little extra nutritional yeast. bake for 40 minutes uncovered at 400f. let rest for at least 10 minutes before serving.

muy delicioso!

shoe porn

i have a problem... an addiction problem. and that's with shoes.

i don't know how many pairs i have, but it's a lot. lots of different heels... i could probably buy shoes constantly. i'm a big fan of heels... i especially love very high heels (5 inches and up).

i really like vintage inspired shoes... maryjanes, slingbacks, espadrilles... anything adorable. these are a couple of cute ones i've been eyeballing (but... i don't have the cash flow to be spending this much on shoes right now).

the rockport audry quarter strap woven

i really like the 40s feel of these... they're pretty steep at $140. i love that color too... they come in other normal colors (brown/black/etc). totally cute.

seychelles footwear pot of gold

i am definitely kind of obsessed with seychelles shoes. i have a couple of pairs and they are my old standbys. they are very much vintage inspired, well made, and very comfortable. i love the color of these shoes... that light aqua is gorgeous.

my mom always says i'm like almada marcos... if only! haha.

fixed videos

a while back i posted a tutorial for doing elevated pin curls for long hair... in that post i put a video from youtube, and some photos of what it looked like finished.

when i had originally uploaded the videos, the sound got all crazy... i fixed the sound and reuploaded them today... here they are in all of their awkward glory. i hope i'm not this weird in person.

and there you have it.
